A whistle known by many names
The bosun's whistle has many aims
A simple tune to rally the crew
A sound to tell them what to do
All hands on deck
Attention please
Through wind and rain
It’s heard with ease

The Bosun's whistle is used by the boatswain on naval ships. It has a high pitch which allows it to be heard over the roar of the waves and wind. A series of different sounds means communication is possible in even the harshest conditions. This simple whistle can instruct the crew with no need of extra verbal dialogue.
